Abstract
The unlawful detention of Australian resident, Cornelia Rau, and the unlawful removal of Australian citizen, Vivian Alvarez, by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs were headline news in Australia during 2005. Some thoughts on the two inquiries by the Immigration Minister, Amanda Vanstone which were interesting but depressing are discussed.
