Abstract

A microscopic plasticity model for dilatant, pressure-sensitive, work-hardening materials undergoing rate-independent slip is presented. A variant of Coulomb's yield criterion is applied which includes the effect of hydrostatic pressure on slip. Dilatation is assumed to occur by expansion normal to the slip plane, as well as equally in all directions. Explicit relations are derived for the double-slip plane deformation of elastically isotropic materials under biaxial loading. Noncoaxiality of the stress and deformation rate tensors is examined with special attention paid to conditions which result in coaxiality.
