Abstract

In situ bending of a nickel-based metallic glass was observed utilizing scanning electron microscopy. The development of other forms of slip bands was found in a highly localized region of inhomogeneous plastic deformation consisting of secondary slip and sub-slip bands. These slip band forms are characteristic of the apex region only, and are believed to aid in the fracture of the metallic glass.
