Abstract

It is simple to measure the landing point of an object sliding off a rough, elevated ramp, as a function of the angle of inclination of the ramp. The results can be predicted straightforwardly using the work-energy theorem and projectile motion. There is excellent agreement between the data and the highly nonlinear but quite intuitive theoretical curve.
