Abstract

The term ‘sleeping beauty’ (SB) is commonly used to describe scholarly articles that go unnoticed for extended periods before suddenly gaining significant attention and seeing a surge in citations. In this research, we utilize both the three-parameter and citation delay methods to identify twenty instances of such sleeping beauty phenomena within the field of finance. This includes five influential works written by Nobel Prize laureates. We conduct an in-depth analysis of the content in two renowned sleeping beauty publications, specifically Markowitz's work from 1952 and Vickrey's from 1961, to uncover their lasting contributions to the field of finance. Additionally, this paper pinpoints potential candidates that may achieve SB status in the finance domain.
