Abstract

To reduce the risk of sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a number of safe sleep practices, including breastfeeding and for parents to share a room with their infant, but not a bed.1 This is particularly important in the first 4 months after birth when infants are most vulnerable to SUID. However, to facilitate nighttime feedings, some parents prefer to share a bed with their infant, and it is important to understand the extent of this practice in the community.
