Abstract

Islam continued it existence with the other religions from the first ages and accepted the situation as the cultural diversity moving the peace on the following generation. Non-Muslim population among the Muslims got “zimmi” status from the age of Mohammed (P.B.U.H) and they protected their social and cultural va- lues as they lived their religion freely. As a result of wide tolerance in Islam, Non-Muslims were assigned to important positions within government and trans- lation centers. Religious discussions were made between Christian, Jewish and Muslim scholars in public or in government around the ages of Abbasid, Andalus and the following ages. These discussions were made to prove that their religion were the real and divine one. Islam presented the best examples of tolerance in Andalusia for ages. Conversion of Turks to Islam and their settlement in Anatolia gave chance to Eastern Churches to stand against the pressures of Byzantium Em- pire. Especially during the Ottoman ages the tolerance was on the highest level possible as religious groups were allowed to enforce their own laws. Around the conquered areas there was a religious freedom which allowed local religions to survive and made it easy for others to choose Islam. No matter what religion they believe in the common values and good relations among neighbors created unity on defending the land. In conclusion, Islam from the age that it became state, it also became a system that holds the diverse values and cultures inside it
