Abstract

The results of an experimental program to determine the equilibrium chromium concentration in slags—as influenced by temperature, slag basicity, and metal silicon and metal chromium contents in ranges applicable to low-carbon, stainless-steel, reduction-period conditions—are reported. An estimating equation that statistically describes the experimental data and which is reasonably consistent with tap-slag conditions—the closest approach to chemical equilibrium in the actual electric furnace process—is given.
