Abstract

Coal gasification process conditions influence the equilibrium compositions of reactor slag, gas, and low temperature deposits, as shown by the approximate calculations in this study. Selective vaporizaion of the bulk reactor slag may occur when temperatures exceed 1900°C and is enhanced by a low of the reactor gas. Metal sulfides and may condense at lower temperatures. Capture of S by formation of and in the slag may represent 10–20% of the total S, for the cases considered. The influences of gas pressure, temperature, S concentration of the coal, and of the gas upon ash condensation and slag equilibria are presented.
