Abstract

The goal of this work is to optimise the slab generation before a fly tundish operation at SIDERAR two-lines continuous casting machine. The three main variables to optimise are: -Number of maximum length slabs (Optimise Hot Strip Mill productivity Ton/hour)-Continuous Casting productivity (Ton/hour)-Hot liquid metal use rate (Percentage)The only two controllable variables are each line speed.Depending on the steel market conditions, and the plant production necessities, the weight of each variable might change, therefore the optimisation algorithm should be flexible and allow those changes in an easy way. The solution to this optimisation problem was done using Artificial Intelligence Techniques. A rule-based expert system determines the best strategy and an hybrid genetic algorithm generates each line speed profile for that strategy, considering all the process restrictions.
