Abstract

Summary Skyline arboretum, founded by H.B. Nicholson in 1962 is situated at St. Michael-on-Sea on the Natal south coast. In addition to the 76 tree species indigenous to the area, a further 300 species, native to other parts of the country, were introduced and 400 exotics have been established. In this paper the layout and management history are briefly described. In 1982 the Skyline Arboretum was made over to the Borough of Uvongo and managed by Professor H.B. Rycroft, retired director of Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens, until 1986, when it was taken over by the Natal Parks Board.
