Abstract

AbstractCreativity can be a catalyst for hope, love, and healing under any circumstance and at every age, enabling us to grow beyond the limitations imposed by illness and aging. Creative Aging, which makes aging a more meaningful and positive experience versus a time of decline, will be the topic of this discussion. Miller will discuss the work of her late husband, Dr Gene D Cohen, and the concepts of their co-authored book, Sky Above Clouds: Finding our way through creativity, aging, and illness. Cohen’s concepts explore the clues of creative aging which support resilience, tap into our potential while facing the intersections of adversity and possibility, and create both wisdom and change which make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. We will review the work of Dr. Gene Cohen on his human potential phases including the role of creativity in mastery, sense of control and social engagement.
