Abstract

SUMMARY.— Skin thickness measured radiographically and skinfold thickness measured by callipers were determined in 6 patients with anorexia nervosa before treatment and after restoration of body weight. Pre-treatment skin thickness measurements fell at the lower limit of normal or actually below this. Restoration of body weight resulted in little change in skin thickness in contrast to a large increase in subcutaneous fat as measured by skinfold thickness. These findings are discussed.
