Abstract

Seventeen enzyme-detergent formulations, representing liquid, powder, and concentrated packet product types, were tested in a variety of fabric and garment exposure tests (i.e., wrist band, men's briefs, men's t-shirt, infant fabric wear and cloth diaper, and extended home usage tests). The results of these tests indicate that the presence of enzymes in laundry detergents does not introduce irritant properties to fabrics. The testing of fabrics laundered in enzyme-detergents for their effect on skin has been an essential aspect of dermal safety testing and provides relevant support for the skin safety of these products.
