Abstract

Various fractionation procedures were used to characterize the skin-sensitizing antibodies found in the serum of three patients with serum sickness to horse serum. Reaginic activity was found to be associated with theγ 2 - and theγ 1M -globulin fractions.γ 1M -reagin was found only during the early weeks after sensitization. Theγ 1M -reagin was sensitive to 2-mercaptoethanol and heat, whereas theγ 2 -reagin was resistant to 2-mercaptoethanol and was heat stable. These results suggest that human skin-sensitizing antibody may be associated with any of the three immunoglobulins and is not a property unique toγ 1A -globulin.
