Abstract

The progress of a fundholding practice is charted from its decision to implement skillmix through a new nursing management structure to the development of a multi-agency health and social needs profile. The nursing team developed a more participative, flexible and progressive approach to the use of nursing skills and role development in primary care. The multi-agency work produced greater collaboration between individuals at the grassroots. The practice described in this paper serves 10000 patients in a town in west Surrey with a mixed population. ‘Old Camberley’ has retired generals and others in large old houses, but there are also large estates of young families, a London overspill council estate built in the 1960s, newer small estates of large executive homes and a mobile population of army families.
