Abstract
It is possible to argue that if we could somehow train computers to directly interpret the hand's sketching activity, then a different understanding of the relation between computing and architectural design might become a significant endeavour. This assumed that because the origination of design ideas remains a corporeal performance, a fact long ignored by many design and AI theories, the site where information should be electronically sought and extracted is not only the mind but the hand. The article tries to examine this point in relation to the major paths that the knowledge engineer might wish to investigate.
