Abstract

This presentation highlights the new treatment options by the introduction of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) in orthodontics with special respect to the palatal implants and miniscrews. The indications and limitations of such TADs are presented on the basis of clinical cases and the scientific literature. TADs are mainly indicated for space closure of tooth agenesis, treatment of asymmetries and the extension of orthodontic treatment options in orthognathic borderline cases. The knowledge of the limits of such systems and their special biomechanics are fundamental. In growing children though, conventional anchorage systems may often be preferable.
