Abstract

Sjögren's syndrome (SS), which is characterized primarily by involvement of exocrine glands, is one of the most prevalent autoimmune disorders. The inflammation of the glands, particularly of the eyes and mouth, leads to dryness that can be very disabling. SS is generally not life-threatening and, in most cases, the prognosis is favorable.
