Abstract

Since the end of the last war more than fifty new nations have come into existence. They are not new in the sense that geographically they did not exist before the war, or that they owe their existence to the war. Rather as a result of major postwar political and international developments, they have changed their political status from colonies and overseas territories of the great metropolitan and imperial powers to independent nations.
