Abstract

A microgrid usually consists of a series of distributed generation resources, energy storage system and loads which can be employed in two ways: connected to the grid or “island mode.” Also, using microgrids can lead to significant advantages for both the consumer and power generating companies. Microgrids can be an appropriate way for power generation which considers the economic and environmental issues of these regions. In this paper, the determination of the optimal size of a combined system, independent from the grid, is reviewed. The combined system under study consists of wind turbines, solar arrays, fuel cells with hydrogen storage and diesel generator; For uncertainty modeling of power generation of the wind turbine and solar array, a scenario-based algorithm is used. The goal of this research is to minimize the system cost and to reduce environmental pollution during the study. Also, system costs include initial investment costs, replacement cost, the annual cost of repair and maintenance of system components, and the cost of diesel generator’s fuel consumption. GAMS software, which is one of the most powerful commercial optimization software, has been used for optimization purposes in the present study.
