Abstract

Abstract Glass-forming ability was studied by room temperature 190 keV xenon ion mixing for the AuTa system, for which the atomic size difference is nearly zero. Several amorphous alloys were obtained and their compositions were located in a narrow range around Au23Ta77. The amorphization mechanism under ion irradiation process, as well as the size effect on the glass-forming range, is also discussed.
