Abstract

Scanning tunneling spectroscopy is employed in studies of single InAs nanocrystals, 2–8 nm in diameter. The I– V curves exhibit size-dependent charging and quantum size effects, from which atomic-like states having S and P symmetries are identified. Excellent agreement is found between level spacings observed by tunneling and the corresponding optical transitions.
