Abstract
In their paper, Mawson and Long (1994) measured the diameter of hollow-bearing eucalypt trees used for nesting by several parrot and a cockatoo species, estimated the age of the trees used, and then used the results to recommend changes to forest and woodland management in Western Australia. Unfortunately, their paper presents erroneous information on the estimation of tree age and unjustified inferences are drawn from this ‘data’. We provide a critique of their paper below, in relation to these two issues.
