Abstract

An experiment with a controlled live-steam release in the turbine building of a BWR nuclear power plant has been performed in connection with sampling line optimization problems. In the course of this experiment aerosol size distributions were measured and results concerning the particle size dependent activity distribution were obtained. A model was developed which reveals that in this special process the attachment of radioactive atoms to particles and coagulation between particles are the governing mechanisms. It is shown that the activity attached to the particles in this real process is proportional to the particle surface within the diameter range of 0.3 to 3.0 μm.
