Abstract

This paper presents six-port multiple input multiple output antenna for hybridization of Fifth Generation (5G) and Long-Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) Fourth Generation (4G) communication standards for current and futuristic smart phone applications. Each antenna elements used in MIMO occupies an area of $28\times 26 \text{mm}^{2}$ and printed on FR-4 substrate having dimension of $150\times 75 \times 0.8 \text{mm}^{3}$ which is analogous to the display screen of the smartphone. The proposed antenna has simulated −6dB impedance bandwidth of 200% (2300–6500 MHz) covering LTE 40/41, 5G New Radio sub 6 GHz n77/n78/n79 and WLAN frequency bands. The proposed MIMO antenna has achieved minimum isolation of −20dB among antenna elements, gain > 3dBi and radiation efficiency > 70% throughout the operating frequency bands. Further, the proposed MIMO antenna also exhibits better spatial performance including Envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) < 0.01, and Diversity Gain (DG) around 10dB. It is also perceived that the maximum channel capacity exhibited by proposed MIMO antenna is 32 bps/Hz which is close to ideal capacity (34.05 bps/Hz) for six port MIMO antenna.
