Abstract

In this paper, a novel design technique to realize a planar cavity backed slot antenna-diplexer using Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) technology is proposed for WLAN/ISM band applications. The proposed antenna configuration comprises two different types of cavities where a rhombus shaped cavity is nested into the rectangular cavity. Two rhombus ring radiating slots are etched on the top cladding of each cavity where the outer slot is excited with microstrip feedline while the inner slot is excited with the help of coaxial feed. The antenna produces lower frequency band at 5.2 GHz (5.08-5.32 GHz) with intrinsic port decoupling of −;25 dB and upper frequency band at 5.8 GHz (5.66-5.96 GHz) with port decoupling of −;34 dB. The antenna offers the gain of 6.25 dBi in the lower frequency band with linear polarization and 6.8 dBi in the upper frequency band with circular polarization.
