Abstract

The efficient coordination of business and IT is one of the major challenges for today’s companies. The ability to make the right decisions during the business IT alignment process is a key success factor. The support of these decisions requires a dedicated information model and a structured process of supplying the model with information. Since business IT alignment represents a change process comprising people, the organisation and IT, a solution can be found in organizational change management approaches. These must be combined with a methodical approach which reflects the context of the change management process and supports its control. In this paper, a situational method engineering approach is presented which caters for the needs of business IT alignment in an individual context by making use of standardized components. It bases on an empirical study which has been designed to analyze change methodologies in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and California. The resulting change method engineering approach supports the creation of the right information for an efficient decision process during the business IT alignment endeavor.KeywordsBusiness/IT-AlignmentChange ManagementMethod ConstructionSituational Method EngineeringIntelligent Decision Support
