Abstract

Based on the dynamic balance of organic contaminants in soil/water/air environmental system, soil vapor extraction (SVE), in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), and thermal remediation technologies applicable for varied organic composite contaminated sites were developed and integrated and successfully applied in remediating multiple representative chemical contaminated sites in Jiangsu and Hangzhou. Proprietary-owned indirect thermal desorption unit with horizontal double-cylinder rotary kiln and new method and complete set of equipment for multistage purification for off-gas were successfully researched and developed, to treat recalcitrant/persistent organic contaminated soil, which initiated the site scale application of thermal desorption technology in decommissioned sites of pesticide chemical plants. Mobile and module-designed SVE equipment was developed based on dynamic balance mechanism of volatile organic contaminants (VOCs), characterized with easy installation and operation, high efficiency, more evenly extraction effect, and reduced extraction blindness. Fenton/sodium persulfate-combined remediation technology was researched and developed in the basis of dynamic balance mechanism of organic contaminants’ desorption-dissolution-oxidation in soil/water environmental system. This developed technology accelerates the degradation and removal process of adsorbed contaminants, improves the treatment effect, and shortens the treatment period. First site scale application of ISCO in industrial contaminated site significantly promotes the application level of ISCO in China.
