Abstract
Lymphocytes from 18 tamarins of four species were cultured in bromodeoxyuridine (BrdUrd) supplemented medium, stained by a fluorescence plus Giemsa (FPG) method, and evaluated for both sister chromatid exchange (SCE) and mitotic stimulation. The overall SCE frequency was found to be 7.02 +/- 3.45 per cell with individual cells containing from zero to 33 spontaneous SCEs. As a measure of mitotic stimulation a total of 3,200 metaphases from the 18 animals were evaluated for the number of DNA replications in vitro by the FPG differential chromatid staining.
