Abstract

Endogenous peptides are important signaling molecules facilitating short- and long-distance signaling in plant growth, development, and immunity (Rzemieniewski and Stegmann, 2022). Multiple plant peptides emerged to have dual regulatory functions in both growth and defense and are thus classified as phytocytokines (Rzemieniewski and Stegmann, 2022). Endogenous peptides are perceived by plasma-membrane-localized receptor kinases. The most prominent and best-studied family of receptors for plant peptides are receptor kinases with leucine-rich repeats (LRR–RKs) in their extracellular domain.
