Abstract

Radio resource management (RRM) functionalities play a key role in third generations mobile telecommunications systems. RRM algorithms are responsible for utilization of the air interface and also needed to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) and maintain the planned coverage area. We investigate the performance of an SIR based call admission control (CAC) algorithm. The simulation model considers three different types of services (speech, video, WWW). Mobile terminals' mobility and handover functionality are also modeled. We assume perfect power control. Using an extensive analysis via computer simulations we investigate the impact of several parameters on the system's performance, measured by blocking probability for each service, call drop probability, and handoff failure rate. These parameters are: the offered load per service, the users' speed, and the SIR threshold for each service, which is used in the CAC decision.
