Abstract

A new genus and species of Ephemeroptera, Siphlonephemerella mupengxui gen. et sp. nov., is reported based on a male imago in mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber. The new mayfly belongs to the superfamily Siphlonuroidea based on the morphological characters of legs and wing venation, but it differs from the related families by a series of unique characters. A new extinct family, Siphlonephemerellidae fam. nov., is established for the new taxa. The new family is characterized by the presence of basal spine on segment II of forceps, the paired hooked claws, and the unique venation in both forewing and hindwings.
