Abstract
This paper reports that the technical roadmap of the design and systems (D&S) division was utilized for proposal of the SIP program of innovative and manufacturing technology. The D&S division proposed the design engineering roadmap in 2007, which classifies design technologies into three categories, i.e., (i) better design technology, (ii) must design technology and (iii) delight design technology, and suggests that the third category will be more fundamental to competitive manufacturing in the near future. The SIP program has embraced this assertion. This paper also reports some research projects which are mainly managed by D&S researchers in the SIP program.
