Abstract

In this work, SiO2/NiFe2O4 nanocomposites (NC) were synthesized in the two-phase system of hexane-water using Kleinhovia hospita L. leaves extract (KLE) with the assistance of high-speed stirring (HSS) method. The catalytic activity of SiO2/NiFe2O4 NC was evaluated for 4-nitroaniline reduction by using NaBH4 as a reducing agent. SiO2/NiFe2O4 NC possessed excellent catalytic activity rather than SiO2 and NiFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) in 4-nitroaniline reduction, and over 95% of 4-nitroaniline was reduced to p-phenylenediamine within 30 min. The increased catalytic activity of SiO2 NPs could be ascribed to the high adsorption capacity and the enhancement of the charge separation due to a modification with NiFe2O4.
