Abstract

Sintering mechanism and physical properties of a Mo 2 FeB 2 , especially Cr containing (Mo 2-x Fe 1-x Cr 2x )B 2 ternary borides were studied for deepening the understanding of basic characteristics of newly developed Mo 2 FeB 2 boride base cermets. Cr addition to the Mo 2 FeB 2 significantly improved its sinterability due to the formation of a transient liquid phase. Cr containing Mo 2 FeB 2 borides have excellent physical properties such as high hardness and young's modulus and are promising candidates for hard material applications.
