Abstract

An elastic analysis of an internal central crack with bridging fibers in a finite orthotropic elastic plate is carried out. A model of pull-out of fiber is applied to the bridging fibers of the crack. The boundary collocation method (BCM) is presented for analyzing the distributions of stress and displacement of the finite orthotropic plate with the internal central crack under the loading conditions of an applied uniform tension stress and the traction forces on crack surfaces yielded by the fiber pull-out model. For the crack tip stress intensity, besides the usual factor F for finite correction, the other two new parameters, the bridging influence factor BK and the finite bridging correction factor Fb, are defined. Finally, for an example problem, the present numerical results are compared with those obtained by FEM for the same finite orthotropic plate and those obtained by the solution for infinite orthotropic plate.
