Abstract

The mechanical mixing of dinickel boride and aluminium powders was achieved with a Turbula mixer. The admixed powders were fabricated via the spark plasma sintering technology using an optimized sintering condition. The microstructures, phases, and hardness results of the consolidated compacts were examined. The results showed that the sintered composites had an average relative density of 99.6%. The hardness values of the composites were upgraded (34.3–37.4 HV1) with increasing Ni2B particles. An in-situ phase was revealed from the microstructures and diffractograms of the sintered composites because of the interface reaction between the ceramic particle and aluminium matrix.
