Abstract
A novel Cu-based Cu54Zr22Ti18Ni6 bulk metallic glass (BMG) powder was successfully joined to Cu powder via spark plasma sintering at 440 °C under a compressive stress of 80 MPa for 4 min. No crystallization and visible defects were observed in the sinter-joined sample with a relative density of 99.7%. The temperature of the supercooled-liquid region (ΔTx) and the crystallization enthalpy (ΔH) were measured after sinter-joining, and were found to decrease with increasing processing temperature from 400 °C to 480 °C. Meanwhile, the thermal stability of the BMG slightly decreased with increasing processing temperature. The X-ray diffraction pattern exhibited no crystal peaks except for a diffuse halo at ∼42° under all conditions except 480 °C.
