Abstract
Sinonasal non-intestinal-type adenocarcinoma is a rare tumor that predominantly occurs in adult men, being most common in the maxillary sinus. A 78-year-old White female sought treatment at our stomatology service, complaining of a painful wound caused by an upper denture that evolved over 1 month. The medical history revealed type 2 diabetes. Intraoral examination revealed an ulcerated nodular lesion involving the right posterior maxillary buccal alveolar ridge. Computed tomography revealed destruction of the right lateral wall of the maxillary sinus and the orbital floor. Given the patient history, together with the clinical and tomographic appearance of the lesion, an incisional biopsy was performed. Microscopic examination revealed an adenocarcinoma with a ductal pattern and areas of clear cells. The patient was referred to a head and neck surgeon, and medical screening at a specialized cancer center did not detect malignant tumor at any other site. The patient is currently undergoing radiotherapy.
