Abstract

The aim of this paper examine the intercultural sensitivity level of prospective primary teachers according to gender, grade level, type of education and settlement place. The participants of the research that was designed as screening model consist of 404 prospective primary teachers studying at Dicle University Ziya Gokalp Education Faculty Departmant of Elementary in 2012–2013 academic year. Teacher candidates’ levels of intercultural sensitivity were measured by Sensitivity Scale developed by Chen and Starosta (2000) and then adapted in Turkish by Ustun (2011). The collected data were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test from a non-parametric statistical method. Intercultural sensitivity levels of teacher candidates are shown a significant difference in terms of teaching type variable, while they didn’t differ significantly in terms of gender, grade level and settlement place.
