Abstract
Three levels of Sinian glaciogenic deposits are widespread in Xinjiang in northwestern China. Two of these are assigned to the lower Sinian and one to the upper Sinian. There is also some evidence for an older, fourth glacial episode. Continental, transitional and marine glacial deposits have been recognised; within these depositional environments six sedimentary facies can be distinguished. The three well-defined glaciogenic units of northwestern China can be correlated with those of South China, and possibly with other parts of the world.
