Abstract

The traditional solution of notch stress and N-SIF needs a refined numerical model, and the corresponding results are affected by geometric parameters and mesh size. Based on the linear elastic fracture mechanics and singular strength theory, a simplified formula for calculating the notch stress distribution and N-SIF of double edge V-notch plate was derived in this paper. By introducing singular intensity factor ‘as’ to comprehensively measure the singularity of notch stress, the evaluation formula of notch stress field was simplified and extended to arbitrary opening angle. A large number of V-notch models had been established to obtain ‘as’. By discussing the influence of notch angle, depth and plate width on singular intensity factor ‘as’, a simple formula of ‘as’ was fitted for calculating notch stress field and N-SIF. The results show that the singular intensity value has an approximate double logarithmic linear relationship with the opening angle parameter p1, and the intercept and slope of the fitting curve are only related to the ratio of notch depth to plate width. The error statistical results show that the dimensionless N-SIF obtained by the simple formula in this paper has high accuracy and can be applied to a wider range of opening angles and different geometric sizes, which is convenient for engineering application.
