Abstract

We present a new way of perceiving grain boundaries in ceramic/single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) composites – a 3-D network of a 2-D mat comprising entangled 1-D SWNT bundles – which could be tailored a priori . This is based on some new evidence obtained from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies of well-dispersed Al 2 O 3 /10 vol.% SWNT composites.
