Abstract

By comparing the absorption and emission spectra (4 K) of ZnO single crystals the positions of the free A-exciton lines in emission can be declared. These transitions for E ⊥ c and E ∥ c were produced by excitons having a parallel or antiparallel spin orientation of the electron and the hole. This fine structure splitting is 0.20 meV.
