Abstract

We demonstrate, for the first time, the single-shot Brillouin optical time domain analysis (SS-BOTDA). Using orthogonal probe sidebands, OFDM modulation and coherent detection, the distributed Brillouin spectrum can be reconstructed by only one-shot measurement, which can considerably increase the sensing speed. Distributed fiber sensing by SS-BOTDA is experimentally realized with 20.48 m spatial resolution over 1.08 km single-mode fiber, without frequency scanning, or averaging or polarization scrambling.
