Abstract
Single crystals of the aluminum tungstate–scandium tungstate solid solution were grown by the modified Czochralski (CZ) method. The crystals obtained were transparent and shown to have satisfactory quality by polarizing microscope observations. The single crystals were demonstrated to contain both Al and Sc elements by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) measurements and the Al : Sc trivalent cation ratio in the solid solution was precisely determined to be 8.5 : 1.5 from the lattice parameters obtained by the X-ray powder diffraction analysis.
