Abstract
In this issue of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, the article by Sinha and colleagues1 determined risk factors for death after repair of atrioventricular valve regurgitation in patients with single-ventricle circulation treated at a single institution. Risk factors that emerged included earlier age at atrioventricular valve repair, heterotaxy, and unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect. Transplant-free survival was lowest in patients who underwent repair at the first-stage palliation. In addition, patients with severe dysfunction of the dominant ventricle had lower transplant-free survival.
