Abstract
We have studied the reactions of the monosubstituted derivatives [B12H11X]2− (X = SCN, I, OC(O)CH3) with acetic acid in the presence of atmospheric oxygen and moisture. The results demonstrate that a hydroxyl group can be embedded in a single step, without formation of any acetoxy derivatives. The synthesized compounds were identified by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and NMR. A mechanism of the process has been proposed.
