Abstract

ABSTRACT The water pumping system is widely used for household applications. This work focuses on a single-phase water pumping system. The PV and grid power is connected by the proposed modified universal converter. The application of proposed modified universal converter removes the usage of diode rectifier and reduces the multiple stage power conversion directly using the grid power without converting it into DC and back to AC. The system can operate on solar (no grid power), grid (no solar power), and both solar and grid (when only solar power is not sufficient to run the motor). The proposed system is experimentally validated on a single-phase monoblock water pump on all three modes. The study further discusses the transient when the motor switches its operation from grid to solar, solar to the grid, solar to both (grid and solar).
